Indira Gandhi Open University, or IGNOU is India’s top and world’s largest open university. It was established in 1985. The HRD Ministry runs this university. It has a massive strength for students who want to pursue higher education from an open university. IGNOU has 67 regional centres spread throughout India and offers 227 programmes in 21 schools. Both AICTE and NCTE have given their approval to IGNOU’s New Delhi main campus. The university started with only 2 academic programs, i.e., a Distance Education Diploma and Diploma in Management, and 4,528 students. Is IGNOU perfect for distance learning?

IGNOU is the one university that breaks all the myths regarding quality education. The Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, has awarded it several times. Both NCTE and AICTE approve the university. The Indian government formed the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the National Council for Teacher Education Act in 1995.
